Family Friday (vol. 56): The Days are Long but the Years Fly By

Sometimes it makes me sick how true some of these sayings actually are. The days are LONG but where the heck do the years go?

When I was dropping off Shea yesterday morning, her teacher let me know that she would be moving up to the Primary room in a week or two. She said, “Shea’s potty trained, she’s independent. She’s Montessori through and through. When I demonstrate a work, Shea is able to do it just like me. We don’t want to hold her back.” I had this wave of 50% proud mama going on mixed with 50% mourning my-not-so baby-baby getting so big so fast. I mean, this is the last stop before kindergarten and that just doesn’t seem possible. I was kind of scrambled all day with mixed emotions and I’m not going to lie, I was thinking, maybe just one more baby…

Mark has been traveling a LOT lately. More often than not and it has been hard – not just from the standpoint of being the sole caregiver (and STILL not sleeping through the night…), but also getting out of the habit of cooking dinner and exercising. We normally trade-off evenings of working out either right before or right after dinner and as much as I tell myself I’ll workout after the girls are in bed…it never happens. I am TOAST come 8:30pm. Working out is quite literally the last thing I want to do…and I love working out.

I’m also not going to cook anything blog-worthy for the girls because I might just go off on a (nearly) 3-year-old who turns up her nose or says, “I’m not hungry”. I’m going to get busy this week – I can’t wait!

Piper had her 1-year well child visit today. She’s perfect, but we already knew that 🙂 She’s 30.5 inches and 21 lbs 13 oz of cuteness and survived 4 shots and a toe poke. If Piper isn’t traumatized, Shea certainly is! Oh, and Piper is also getting her molars. We did a quick trip to the park and had lunch, followed by a 3+ hour nap for them both. Mama can get a lot done in 3 uninterrupted hours!

We have family pictures tomorrow (send prayers and then alcoholic beverages for afterwards) and our outfits are all with thanks to Amazon. What did I ever do before Amazon? It’s just not a world I want to live in! I’m also smitten with grocery delivery. I will fight Mark to the death when our free trial is up. Grocery shopping with 2 littles is nightmare-inducing. Plus, I can be indecisive and plan dinners as we go!

I made this Caramelized Onion Dip (sans the olive oil – forgot it and it doesn’t need it!) and I want to bathe in it. Heavenly.

College football (Go Illini!) on the big screen after bedtime tonight. I’d be a little more excited if the weather weren’t amazing, but hey, #firstworldproblems.

We’re going to try and squeeze in a beach day tomorrow, hoping it won’t be the last but understanding we’re beyond fortunate to be on the beach come mid-September.

Enjoy the weekend y’all.

Be well,
