There were some beautiful days this week (Easter excluded, but the girls looked beautiful! ^^^) and the girls and I have been enjoying wagon rides. We strap in Piper and Shea collects dandelions, rides along, or pulls Piper. I take pictures of the girls, enjoy the sun, and aim for my 10,000 steps/day. Somehow, spring makes you dread winter even if you’re in the clear for at least the next 6 months. Hey, glass half empty…quit it!
Anyone have a great blood orange recipe? Maybe a cocktail? My CSA box came with a TON of blood oranges and admittedly, they’re not my fave to eat raw.
What else? Birthdays. Brii’s birthday is today, except I’m silly and thought yesterday was the 21st and therefore, had prompted Shea to shower her with “HAPPY BIRTHDAYS!” the second she walked in the door. I gave her a card, wished her a happy birthday myself, and it wasn’t until I was at work mid-morning and mid-conversation with a new employee that I realized my mistake. I texted her and clarified, “Tomorrow is your birthday, isn’t it? Oops. You should’ve correct me!” She told me her grandma thought it was the day before (two days early) and that since I wasn’t going to see her on her actual birthday, it was perfect. She’s a doll and I need more caffeine in my life. Clearly. My dad’s birthday is Monday and Lily’s (our bulldog) is on Thursday. My mom and FIL share April 1st as their birthday, so in short, April is a busy month for everyone to get older on me.
Shea has been 70% hilarious and sweet and 30% insufferable. One day, she was playing in her room and I spied on the baby monitor as she rocked each of her dolls and stuffed animals singing, “Mommy loves you, always, always, always…Daddy loves you, always, always, always.” She then laid the doll/stuffed animal on the ground and repeated with the next. I melt. But within the hour, she was throwing herself on the kitchen floor, distraught over the fact that her PINK sippy cup was dirty and the purple sippy would just not be acceptable. Is it bad that I calmly ask her to go cry in her room when she’s irrational? Usually, she actually does as I ask, too. I can feel you thinking, “This is why people say 3 is worse than 2…the tough stuff is yet to come!” You just keep those thoughts away, please!
Piper is still not sleeping through the night and every night is a little different. I gave up on journaling her sleep because every time I turn around she’s popping a new tooth (6!!) and shows no pattern whatsoever. She usually goes down without issue around 7:30pm, I nurse sometime around 2am, and she’s up for the day around 6:45am. It’s a loose schedule, but her sleep isn’t horrible. I just look forward to 7-8 consecutive hours at some point in 2017. That’s not too much to ask, is it? SAY NO.
We’re adopting Harlie, the bulldog. She comes tonight at 7pm. Our world is about to get ROCKED. Lily’s world is about to get ROCKED. Harlie is cute as can be, but it’s going to be a long few weeks breaking her of some bad habits – getting on the couches, chewing toys, barking, etc. We know a bit of what we’re up against but it’s worth it to give her a good home Pics soon on Instagram!
Work is crazy busy. Everyone seems stressed. This too shall pass?
I went out with a girlfriend for drinks last night. It had been a LONG time since I just talked 1:1 with a girlfriend and I soooo needed that. I left feeling recharged and ready for another day. Good girlfriends are so important.
We have no real plans for the weekend. I have my tennis league tomorrow morning and a hockey game on Sunday, but otherwise it should be a pretty quiet weekend.
I’m toying with either Whole30 or Hello Fresh – thoughts? I’m in a food rut. I’m also thinking about starting a weekly thread with my workouts. For accountability and because I can.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Be well,
