In early 2014, I flew up to Northern California to speak at a camp for elite runners. When the wheels touched down in San Francisco, I got a voicemail from the event organizers.
“One of our speakers had to rebook his flight, and he’s landing in San Jose. Can you pick him up?”
I obliged but thought, “Who is this guy, and what if it’s an awkward 3 hour drive from San Jose to Big Sur?”
As I maneuvered the rental car to the curb of the pick-up area at the San Jose airport, I saw a sinewy guy wearing a puffer jacket and sunglasses, lugging a big bag. He broke into the most giant smile.
It was Ray Zahab.
As it turned out, Ray is one of the most incredible people I’ve ever met in my life. We yammered on and on about life and bikes and all his adventures.
See, Ray isn’t your ordinary athlete.
The incredible lengths to which he’s pushed his body and mind are nothing short of awe-inspiring. But beyond that, Ray’s just a good, caring, kind human being.
When you find out what’s he’s accomplished, you’ll be surprised and no doubt, inspired.
